Course Description

Treating the overhead athlete can be daunting for the rehabilitation professional. This is magnified for occupational therapists and hand therapists, as many do not treat the shoulder or trunk where many of the underlying inefficiencies lie. Understanding the principles across the entire kinetic chain of the overhead athletes as well as efficient movement patterns is paramount in treating this population. In addition, analysis of physical demand, intensity and duration are all integrated into treatment approaches and return to prior level of function.

In this unique and interactive one-day seminar, current concepts in examination of the overhead athlete and analysis of his/her sport and its demands will be presented. Interventions will focus on evidence based techniques covering a spectrum of overhead athletes as well as sport and position specific techniques. In addition, ground breaking and out-of-the-box treatment strategies to rehabilitate this advanced and exciting population will be outlined. This course provides the PT/OT/CHT the tools necessary to examine the athlete, sport demand and design the most efficient rehabilitation process to get them back to sports. Following this course you will be able to apply the skills learned immediately to your practice. The education level for this course is intermediate.
